One day Satan and Jesus were having a conversation.
Satan had just departed from the Garden of Eden, and he was gloating and boasting.
“Yes, sir, I just caught a World full of people down there. I set me a trap and used a little bait. I knew they couldn’t resist. Got ‘em all!”
“What are you…
“Congratulations, Your vote has been counted” Not the exact words really but it sounded like that. I’am a first time voter and eventually participated in the first ever automated election. They process was really very long and tiring. I went to my precinct at around 8:30 and got a priority number of 300( they were calling number 74 that time). What is more sad is that I have to be separated from the precinct of my parents and was not able to see them once we reached the school’s entrance gate. So i decided to go home since our house is a motorcycle ride away. I went back at the precinct at around 2pm to check on my number and was surprised to know that they didn’t use the priority number and instead used the “first come, first serve” system (so why did they use the priority number in the first place?).People started to insert and used their ”connection” in order to vote earlier than the others who came earlier. I could not stop but think, “people has been complaining about the corrupt government, yet they themselves could not stop themselves from being corrupt in their little ways”. It is because of this things why the country is so chaotic. Yet, this experience is not all negative. When I was able to enter the room I saw this old man. He was one of the early persons in that precinct, yet he voted later than me. Therefore he really waited almost the whole day just to cast his vote.Seeing this really touched my heart. His patience and not using his age to as an excuse to get ahead on others is an exact attitude that we Filipinos NEED. We don’t need a very brilliant leaders for our country to progress. What we need is to change ourselves and challenge ourselves to do things for others cause. It’s not to late, It was never to late and I’am hopeful that this election may help not myself, not my family but for the future generations of Filipinos. -jpsan
My Short Essay about the Philippines
Jaeyoun Kim
September 2003
Filipinos always complain about the corruption in the Philippines. Do you really think the corruption is the problem of the Philippines? I do not think so. I strongly believe that the problem is the lack of love for the Philippines.
